I’m feeling betrayed
Betrayal cuts deeply because it often comes from someone we trusted. It leaves us feeling exposed, hurt, and questioning how things went wrong. It’s your heart’s way of saying, “This wasn’t supposed to happen,” and it often stirs up feelings of anger, sadness, and confusion all at once.
What You Might Be Feeling Right Now
You might feel a mix of shock and anger, replaying the situation over and over in your mind. Perhaps you’re questioning how someone you trusted could act in a way that feels so unfair or disloyal. It might even make you doubt your ability to trust others—or yourself—in the future.
God’s Heart for You in Betrayal
Psalm 55:12-14
"If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; but it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship."
Even David experienced the pain of betrayal, and he brought that hurt to God. He understands the depth of this wound.
Isaiah 53:3
"He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain."
Jesus experienced betrayal from those closest to Him, including Judas and Peter. He knows your pain and offers His comfort and understanding.
Romans 12:19
"Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord."
God reminds us that justice is His, freeing us from the burden of seeking revenge or carrying bitterness.
What You Can Do Right Now
- Acknowledge the pain and allow yourself to grieve. Betrayal hurts, and it’s okay to feel that.
- Take your hurt to God in prayer. Be honest about how it’s affecting you and ask Him to help you heal.
- Guard your heart as you process. It’s okay to step back from the person who hurt you while you seek wisdom on how to move forward.
- Reflect on boundaries. This may be an opportunity to set healthier ones to protect your heart in the future.
- Consider forgiveness—not for their sake, but for your freedom. Forgiveness is a process, and God will walk with you through it.
A Prayer for This Moment
"Lord, I feel so hurt and broken by this betrayal. It’s hard to understand why someone I trusted would do this to me. Help me to process this pain without becoming bitter or hardened. Remind me that You are my safe place and that You understand this kind of hurt. Show me how to forgive, even when it feels impossible, and guide me in setting boundaries that honor You. Thank You for being my refuge in this time. Amen."
