I’m feeling repelled

Feeling repelled arises when we experience a strong aversion or disgust toward something or someone. It’s your heart signaling that something feels off, uncomfortable, or even morally wrong. This feeling of repulsion can stem from actions, behaviors, or environments that go against your values, beliefs, or personal boundaries. While feeling repelled can be a natural response, it’s important to examine why we feel this way and to respond with grace, understanding, and the wisdom of God, particularly when it comes to interactions with others.

What You Might Be Feeling Right Now

You might feel physically or emotionally repelled by someone or something, as though you cannot bear to be around it or them. This feeling can arise when you encounter something that challenges your values, goes against your moral compass, or makes you uncomfortable. You may feel the urge to withdraw or reject what is in front of you, but it's important to process these feelings with care and discernment, asking God for guidance in how to respond.

God’s Heart for You in Repulsion

Ephesians 4:2-3
"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace."
While we may feel repelled by certain actions or behaviors, God calls us to respond with humility and love. We are called to bear with one another in love, extending grace even when we feel uncomfortable. God’s love enables us to act with patience and understanding, rather than withdrawing or rejecting others.

Matthew 5:44
"But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you."
Even when we feel repelled by someone, God calls us to love them and pray for them. Repulsion can be a natural response, but we are challenged to look beyond our feelings and extend grace, seeking peace and reconciliation.

Romans 12:9
"Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good."
God calls us to hate evil and cling to good. While we may feel repelled by evil or unrighteousness, we are called to act with love and sincerity. Our response should be rooted in God’s truth, seeking to overcome evil with good.

What You Can Do Right Now

  • Examine Your Feelings: If you’re feeling repelled, take a moment to reflect on why. Is it due to a personal boundary, a moral conflict, or a misunderstanding? Seek to understand the root of your feelings before reacting.
  • Respond with Grace: While it's natural to feel repelled by certain actions or behaviors, God calls us to respond with grace. Ask Him for the wisdom to handle the situation with love, kindness, and discernment.
  • Set Boundaries: If your feeling of repulsion is tied to unhealthy boundaries, it’s important to set limits while still responding with respect and grace. You can choose to protect yourself without rejecting the person.
  • Pray for Wisdom: Ask God for wisdom in how to navigate situations that make you feel repelled. Pray for the ability to act with understanding and to see others as God sees them, despite your initial reaction.

A Prayer for This Moment

Guide my heart and mind to act with patience and understanding, even when I feel uncomfortable. Help me to set healthy boundaries while showing respect and compassion to others. Thank You for Your grace that enables me to love, even when I feel repelled. Amen."
