I’m feeling awful
Feeling awful often comes when everything feels overwhelming, wrong, or out of balance. It can be a mix of emotions like sadness, guilt, shame, and frustration all piling up, leaving you drained and unsure of how to move forward. It’s like everything feels heavy, and no matter what you do, it seems like nothing will make it better.
What You Might Be Feeling Right Now
You might feel exhausted, emotionally and physically, like you can’t shake off the weight of what’s going on. It could be a sense of hopelessness, as though things will never improve, or a deep sadness that’s hard to express. You might also feel isolated or disconnected from others, unsure of how to ask for help or if anyone truly understands.
God’s Heart for You in Feeling Awful
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God."
God is the source of comfort, especially when everything feels overwhelming. He is near to you in your struggles, offering His peace and compassion.
Matthew 11:28-30
"Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
God invites you to bring your burdens to Him, promising rest for your weary soul.
Isaiah 40:29
"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak."
When you feel awful, God offers you strength, even when you feel like you have nothing left to give.
What You Can Do Right Now
- Acknowledge your feelings without judgment. It’s okay to feel awful, and giving yourself permission to feel is the first step toward healing.
- Take a moment to rest, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Allow your body and mind to recharge before making any big decisions.
- Spend time in prayer, telling God exactly how you feel. He welcomes your honest emotions and will guide you in your distress.
- If possible, reach out to someone you trust. Sometimes, just talking to someone can provide relief and perspective.
- Reflect on small steps you can take to shift the weight you’re carrying—maybe it’s a walk, a moment of gratitude, or simply pausing to breathe.
A Prayer for This Moment
"Lord, I feel awful right now, and it’s hard to see beyond the weight of everything. Please comfort my heart and give me the strength I need to get through this moment. Help me to find rest in You and remind me that I am not alone in my struggles. Thank You for being my refuge and my strength when I feel weak and weary. Amen."
