I’m feeling horrified

Horror often arises when you witness or experience something shocking, disturbing, or deeply unsettling. It’s your heart and mind trying to process something that feels wrong, unjust, or beyond comprehension. This intense emotion can leave you feeling frozen, overwhelmed, or helpless as you try to make sense of what you’ve seen or experienced.

What You Might Be Feeling Right Now

You might feel your heart racing, your stomach churning, or your body trembling as you replay the event in your mind. There could be a mix of fear, anger, sadness, or disbelief, making it hard to focus or feel grounded. You might also feel distant, as though your mind is trying to shield you from fully engaging with the situation.

God’s Heart for You in Horror

Psalm 46:1-2
"God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea."
Even in the most terrifying circumstances, God is your refuge and strength, offering His presence as an anchor.

Isaiah 41:13
"For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you.’"
God reminds you that He is with you in your fear, holding you steady and helping you face the unimaginable.

John 16:33
"In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
Jesus acknowledges the brokenness of this world but assures you of His victory and power over every situation.

What You Can Do Right Now

  • Take slow, deep breaths to calm your body and bring your focus back to the present moment.
  • Pray honestly, pouring out your fear and confusion to God, asking Him to bring peace to your heart.
  • Reach out to someone you trust—a friend, pastor, or counselor—to process what you’ve experienced. Sharing your feelings can help lighten the burden.
  • Reflect on God’s promises of protection and justice. While the situation may feel out of control, remember that nothing is beyond His power.
  • Engage in grounding activities, like journaling, walking, or focusing on small sensory details, to bring calm to your mind and body.

A Prayer for This Moment

"Lord, I feel horrified by what I’ve experienced, and it’s hard to process everything right now. Please calm my heart and remind me that You are with me, even in this moment. Help me to trust Your justice and protection, and guide me in taking steps to find peace and clarity. Thank You for being my refuge and my strength when I feel overwhelmed. Amen."
