I’m feeling proud

Pride can arise when we take satisfaction in our achievements, progress, or the accomplishments of those we care about. It’s your heart signaling that something good has been accomplished, and you are recognizing your effort or the effort of others. While pride can be positive when it’s rooted in gratitude or accomplishment, it’s important to check that it doesn’t become self-centered or rooted in comparison. Healthy pride comes from acknowledging your growth and the goodness of God, while humbling yourself in gratitude for what you’ve been able to achieve.

What You Might Be Feeling Right Now

You might feel a sense of accomplishment, joy, or satisfaction in something you’ve done or something someone close to you has achieved. You could be reflecting on hard work, success, or personal growth, feeling good about how far you’ve come. This feeling may inspire you to celebrate, share your accomplishments, or acknowledge your strengths. However, pride can also bring up feelings of superiority or comparison, so it’s important to balance pride with humility and gratitude.

God’s Heart for You in Pride

Proverbs 16:18
"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall."
While pride itself isn’t inherently wrong, God warns against excessive pride or arrogance. Humility is key, and pride should never lead to self-exaltation or looking down on others. It’s important to acknowledge God’s role in all your achievements and to stay humble in your successes.

1 Corinthians 10:31
"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God."
Pride that is rooted in gratitude and the acknowledgment of God’s provision and strength is healthy. When we are proud of something, we should recognize that it is God who has equipped us for success and that our accomplishments ultimately serve His glory.

James 4:6
"But He gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: 'God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.'"
God desires humility in us, and He shows favor to those who remain humble, even in the face of success. Humility helps us acknowledge that everything we have and accomplish is through His grace, not by our own doing.

What You Can Do Right Now

  • Reflect on Gratitude: When feeling proud, take a moment to express gratitude. Acknowledge how far you’ve come and recognize the work that God has done through you. Pride should be tempered with thankfulness for the opportunities and strength God has given you.
  • Give Glory to God: Recognize that every good thing, whether it’s an accomplishment or a success, is ultimately a gift from God. Celebrate your achievements, but always return the praise to Him.
  • Be Humble: Stay grounded in humility. Pride is not about boasting or exalting oneself, but about recognizing progress and using that awareness to inspire growth in others. Consider how you can share your success to encourage or help others.
  • Celebrate with Others: If your pride is linked to someone else’s achievement, celebrate them with genuine joy. Share in their success without comparing or elevating yourself, recognizing that everyone has unique gifts and successes to be proud of.
  • Check Your Heart: If you feel pride slipping into arrogance or comparison, check your heart. Ask God to help you stay humble, and remember that everything you do should point back to His glory, not your own.

A Prayer for This Moment

"Lord, I’m feeling proud, and I thank You for the strength, wisdom, and opportunities You’ve given me to achieve. Help me to stay humble and recognize that all success comes from You. Keep me grounded in gratitude, and guide me to use my accomplishments to serve and glorify You. Thank You for the grace to grow and for the ability to do all things through You. Amen."
