I’m feeling worried

Worry often arises when we’re faced with uncertainty about the future or concerns about an outcome that we can’t control. It’s your mind’s way of alerting you to potential risks, signaling that there’s something important at stake. Worry’s function is protective—it’s trying to prepare you for challenges or dangers, urging you to take action or to make decisions that will help you avoid harm. However, when left unchecked, worry can spiral into anxiety, taking over your thoughts and emotions, and making it difficult to trust that things will work out as they should.

What You Might Be Feeling Right Now

You might feel a tightness in your chest, a racing heartbeat, or a feeling of restlessness as your thoughts constantly focus on what might go wrong. Worry often leads to mental overload—your mind loops through various worst-case scenarios, replaying them over and over, leaving you feeling drained and exhausted. You could also experience physical tension, like clenched fists, headaches, or difficulty focusing on anything other than the source of your worry. At times, worry can make it feel like you're caught in a cycle of uncertainty, unsure of what to do next or how to break free.

God’s Heart for You in Worry

Philippians 4:6-7
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
God doesn’t want you to carry the weight of worry alone. He invites you to bring your concerns to Him, assuring you that His peace—peace beyond what you can comprehend—will guard your heart and mind. This peace is not just the absence of worry, but a deeper sense of calm, knowing that God is in control of every situation.

1 Peter 5:7
"Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you."
God sees and cares about every worry you carry. He invites you to release your anxieties to Him, knowing that He is trustworthy and fully capable of handling what’s weighing you down. His care is personal, and His love is more than enough to calm your fears.

Matthew 6:34
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
God encourages you to live in the present, where He’s already at work. Worrying about the future only takes your energy away from what God wants to do in your life today. Trusting Him with tomorrow frees you to focus on the tasks at hand, knowing that He will provide exactly what you need when the time comes.

  • Focus on What You Can Control: Worry often arises from the fear of the unknown. It’s helpful to focus on what you can influence right now, even if it’s a small step toward resolving the situation. Taking action, even if it’s just starting a task, can bring a sense of relief.
  • Ground Yourself: Engage in activities that help you feel anchored in the present—whether it’s reading scripture, going for a walk, or practicing mindfulness. Grounding activities can help interrupt the cycle of worry and bring you back to a place of peace.

A Prayer for This Moment

"Lord, I’m feeling worried, and it’s hard to quiet my mind. Please help me to surrender my anxieties to You and trust that You are in control of my future. Fill me with Your peace and remind me that I don’t have to carry this burden alone. Guide me in taking the next step, and help me to focus on today, knowing You will provide for tomorrow.
