I’m feeling nervous
Nervousness often arises when we face an uncertain or challenging situation that triggers anxiety or fear of failure. It’s your mind and body signaling that something important is happening, and you’re unsure of the outcome. Nervousness can be a protective response, encouraging us to prepare or be alert, but if it overwhelms us, it can make us doubt our abilities or freeze us in place.
What You Might Be Feeling Right Now
You might feel a fluttering in your stomach, your heart racing, or your hands trembling. There could be a sense of unease or anticipation as you face a situation that feels beyond your control. Your mind might race with worries or "what if" scenarios, and you may feel insecure or uncertain about how things will turn out. It’s common to experience nervousness before important events like presentations, interviews, or life changes, but it can also make you feel vulnerable and exposed.
God’s Heart for You in Nervousness
Philippians 4:6-7
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
God invites you to bring your nervousness and anxiety to Him. He promises peace that surpasses understanding, calming your heart and mind when you feel overwhelmed.
Isaiah 41:10
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
God promises His presence in times of nervousness, offering you strength and assurance that you are not alone. He will help you through any situation that causes you to fear or doubt.
2 Timothy 1:7
"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline."
God has given you a spirit of strength and confidence, not fear. Even in moments of nervousness, His Spirit equips you to face challenges with courage and calm.
What You Can Do Right Now
- Pause and Breathe: Take a moment to breathe deeply and center yourself. Focus on calming your body so that you can gain a clearer perspective on the situation.
- Pray for Peace: Bring your nervousness to God in prayer, asking for His peace to calm your mind and fill you with courage. Trust that He will provide the strength you need to face the situation ahead.
- Reframe Your Thoughts: Nervousness often comes from fear of the unknown or worry about failure. Shift your focus from the outcome to the process, trusting that God is in control and will guide you.
- Visualize Success: Imagine yourself succeeding or handling the situation with confidence. Positive visualization can help reduce nervousness and build trust in your abilities.
- Take Action: Sometimes, the best way to reduce nervousness is to take small steps. Whether it’s preparing in advance or simply stepping into the situation, action can break the cycle of nervousness and increase your confidence.
A Prayer for This Moment
"Lord, I’m feeling nervous, and it’s hard to focus when my mind keeps racing. Please calm my heart and fill me with Your peace. Help me to trust in Your strength and guidance as I face this situation. Remind me that You are with me, and that I don’t need to fear because You have equipped me for what’s ahead. Thank You for being my confidence and my help in times of uncertainty. Amen."
